Ireland 8-1 Czech Republic

It's two wins from two for Ireland in the FIH Series Finals at Havelock Park as Anna O’Flanagan notched up four goals and Nicci Daly grabbed a brace.

Sarah Hawkshaw and Zoe Wilson also got on the scoresheet as the Irish women demolished Czech Republic in Banbridge.

The first chance of the game came from captain Katie Mullan, but was well saved by Czech Goalkeeper Barbora Cechakova.

However, it wasn’t long before Ireland were back in the Czech circle. Mullan managed to deflect off a Czech stick for Nikki Daly to slot home to give Ireland an early lead.

Anna O’Flanagan scored the first of her quadruple at the end of the first quarter after being fed by Chloe Watkins.

The second quarter started in a similar fashion as Ireland dominated possession, keeping the Czechs under constant pressure. However, they failed to add to their tally, with several opportunities let slip.

O’Flanagan made it 3-0 after Cechakova had saved her initial attempt. Chloe Watkins was beginning to dictate things in midfield and the fourth arrived when Zoe Wilson snapped on the rebound from Shirley McCay’s free hit, dribbling around the keeper to pass into the net.

The floodgates truly opened in the final quarter with Hawkshaw deflecting in a penalty corner. O'Flanagan rattled in two quickfire goals to make it 7-0, the second - and her fourth - arriving after industrious play by Gillian Pinder.

Jindriska Leichova did register a consolation goal for the Czech side, pouncing after McFerran saved the initial attempt by Adela Lehovcova. But Ireland would have the last say with Katie Mullan laying on Daly to complete the rout.

Interim Head Coach Gareth Grundie was content afterwards: "We showed real intent today and it was good to be rewarded with some great finishing and corner execution.

"I was pleased with our overall energy throughout but know this is a stepping stone and our feet are firmly grounded. Our focus remains on the task ahead starting on Tuesday."
