Alex Speers has announced her international retirement after amassing 164 caps over an eight-year Ireland career.
Speers gained her first cap against Scotland in 2006 and has played a significant role in set-up for close to a decade.
Speers, who will still play club hockey for Pegasus, captained the Irish team for three years and led them in the London Olympic qualification tournament in Belgium, despite having broken her thumb and undergoing surgery just a few weeks before.
"I would like to thank Riet Kuper (former Ireland coach) for giving me the opportunity as an 18-year-old to play for Ireland.
"I would also like to thank Gene Muller (also a former Ireland Coach) and his management team for all their work during the majority of my career,” said 26-year-old Speers.
