UCD ended a 58-year hiatus today when the took hold of the ESB Irish Senior Cup for the first time since 1951.
The students defeated Pegasus today in a match that was supported by six of the 1951 squad.
UCD started strongly, demonstrating pace and skill and their efforts were rewarded in the 16th minute when Roisin Flinn combined with McGilp for a text book one-two before receiving the pass on the penalty spot for a slapshot and 1-0 lead.
UCD capitalised on their surge and a minute later a Hollie Jenkinson shot found its way through to the back of the Pegasus net for a 2-0 lead.
Pegasus appeared to lift their game in the second half it paid off in the 38th minute when Grace Irwin got on the end for an easy tap in after Pegasus showed some style pulling the UCD defence apart.
But UCD responded strongly and Roisin Flinn added her second on a rebounding penalty corner shot for a 3-1 lead.
UCD continued to dominate and Rosie Carrigan showed some magic for her side in the 53rd as she weaved her way through to the Pegasus circle catching a bouncing ball before hammering home for her first goal and her team's forth.
In the earlier men's final, Pembroke Wanderers took the men's title with a lopsided 6-0 victory over Cookstown.
Pembroke took the lead in the 17th minute as Gordon Eliott slipped in the ball from a tight angle. Maurice Eliott doubled his side's lead eight minutes later, taking advantage of some open space.
In the second half, Pembroke pulled away and further goals from Gordon Eliott, Paddy Conlon, Justin Sheriff and Alan Sothern wrapped up the contest.
