Ireland fell to Great Britain in Setanta Sports Trophy, their third game in four days.

Ireland opened the match with a real chance in the twelvth minute when Flinn put in a great cross for McKean, whose deflection found the wrong side of the side netting.

But the chances kept rolling for the girls in green with conversions just evading them in a number of close calls.

Both sides continued the first half in attacking mode and the work rate of both teams was testament to their levels of fitness.

It was the British who broke the deadlock in the twenty-third minute with their first penalty corner - the initial drag flick was well saved by Goode, but the follow-up shot was raised above the 'keeper and Chloe Rodgers gave her side the lead.

Ireland had a great chance to equalise only sixty seconds later, but then Britain took hold with had four corners in two minutes and in the 35th minute a low drag flick to the keeper’s right put Christa Cullen on the scoreboard to make it 2-0 at half time.

The second half gave Ireland three penalty corners, but the set pieces did not find the back board.

Ireland’s best chance came from a super Speers run - she weaved past her defender and dragged the keeper wide but she just could not find the finishing touch to get the shot on target.

Ireland continued to push and put plenty of pressure on Britain, but the visitors copper fastened their victory in the 33rd minute when a shot from Charlotte Craddock made it 3-0.

Commenting after the game, coach Muller said: 'The difference between the sides today was in both circles.

'We created a lot of chances against Britain. I was happy with our work rate and the chances we created but their finishing was better.

'It was a very good team performance. I am really happy with our progress over the tournament, we have been dynamic and creative. It’s been a step up for us.'

Ireland will play South Africa on Sunday in the 3rd v 4th play-off at 9.00am in UCD.
