Sara Byrne rounded off a brilliant three-day tournament in France

Sara Byrne has achieved her best professional result by finishing second at the Jabra Ladies Open de France.

The Cork golfer started the third round three shots behind leader Helen Briem, but the German showed no final-day nerves as she shot a 67 to finished 12-under par at the 54-hole event – seven shots ahead of Byrne, Singapore's Shannon Tan and Lydia Hall of Wales.

Byrne was always going to need something special to secure her first Ladies European Tour win, but a level-par 71 meant that she was always playing for a finish rather than the win.

Her scorecard was dominated with pars, the exception coming around the turn with a pair of birdies and bogeys from the seventh to the 10th.

It was a good day for Aine Donegan who shot a 69 to sit just outside the top 20, level for the tournament, with Anna Foster finished three-over par.

Annabel Wilson retired during Round 2.
