Anna Foster is the leading Irish competitor at the South African Women's Open, where a second round of 70 sees the Dubliner nine shots adrift of halfway leader Pia Babnik of Slovenia.
Foster improved her opening round 71 by a stroke, with four birdies and a bogey at the Royal Cape GC.
The 24-year-old sits on five-under and a tie for 23rd, a shot better off than compatriot Aine Donegan.
The Clare native toiled on the front nine with four bogeys, but after the turn the 24-year-old found her groove, picking up four shots on her way to a 72.
Olivia Mehaffey will also be in action for the weekend, a two-under 71 ensuring the 28-year-old was a shot inside the cut line.
Clubhouse leader Babnik is the player to catch after the Slovenian fired a six-under 67 to move three shots clear of England's Cara Gainer.
Teeing up in the morning wave at Royal Cape Golf Club, Babnik, a two-time Olympian, recovered well after three-putting for bogey at the first carding eight birdies thereafter to surge into the lead.
"I played really well again today," the 22-year-old said. "I made even more birdies than yesterday but did make three bogeys. But that’s fine, that happens. Overall I’m very happy with my game."
Babnik is chasing a third win on the Ladies European Tour (LET) this week.
