Shane Lowry and Brooks Koepka have missed the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, while Séamus Power and German playing partner Matti Schmid will begin the third round three shots off the lead following a second-round 68.

Lowry and koepka began at the 10th and playing foursomes (alternate shot), it was solid if not spectacular as the pair recorded six successive pars before picking up their first shot at the par-four 16th, Lowry rolling in from less than seven feet.

From there, however, things took a turn for the worse at TPC Louisiana.

Koepka was overly aggressive at the tee for the par-three 17th, giving Lowry work to do. The Offaly man duly landed it to within six feet, but the former LIV player was unable to hole for par.

Lowry (below) was again demonstrating his superb iron play with another controlled shot to give Koepka another opportunity from six feet, and this time the five-time major winner delivered for a birdie.

The pair powered to the green of the 536-yard second in two shots, Koepka again taking the honour of a short putt to move to two under and continue their momentum.

That shot, however, was immediately given back at the next as Koepka's drive found the far edge of the green. Lowry's effort fell within five feet of the flag, but his playing partner was again a fraction off with the putter as they dropped a shot.

A booming 325-yard drive from Koepka at the fifth presented Lowry with the chance to craft the ball to within 10 feet and give their hopes of making the cut a further boost.

Another birdie on the seventh hole followed to leave them just inside the then-projected cut of nine under and better. However, as play progressed the cutline shifted to 10 under and better and the pair bowed out.

It was much better for Power and his playing partner Schmid, who pushed up the standings in a tie for 11th and just three shots adrift of halfway leaders Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer of the United States.

Power and Schmid equally split six birdies and two bogeys across the front and back nines for a 68 to move to 13 under and a share of 11th place.

Power drained his putt from around 25 feet at the second to get an early birdie on the scorecard.

That high was immediately followed by a wayward drive at the par-three third, the two-time PGA Tour winner pulling his shot into the rough to the right of the green and the pair having to settle for bogey.

A superb approach shot at the next after a cracking drive from the German saw Power stitch the ball to within five feet, Schmid rolling in for a second birdie.

Power repeated a similarly well-crafted approach at the eighth as they moved to two under.

Five successive pars followed before the pair finished their round with three birdies in the final four holes.

Power's 26-foot putt at the 15th was followed by Schmid showing his composure on the green by knocking in from 12 feet.

They picked up another shot at the last, Schmid lofting to within 11 feet and his 39-year-old Irish playing partner applying the finishing touch, with the back nine only blotted by a single bogey at the penultimate hole after a wayward drive from Power.
