Shane Lowry secured a piece of Masters history with an ace at the sixth at Augusta National, the second time the Offaly man has claimed a hole-in-one at the iconic venue.

The Offaly man, who began the third round in a tie for fourth and seven shots adrift of leader Rory McIlroy, started well with a birdie at the second to move to six under.

Things improved dramatically however at the 190-yard par-3 sixth when his crafted shot found the hole, much to the delight of those watching on. It moved the 2019 Open champion to eight under, four shots adrift of McIlroy.

The 39-year-old becomes the first player to manage the feat at Augusta on more than one occasion. Lowry's hole-in-one in the 2016 tournament came at the 16th, a tournament where he finished tied for 39th on 10 over.

It marks Lowry's second ace of the season after doing likewise at the recent Texas Children's Houston Open and adds to Lowry's reputation as something of a hole-in-one specialist.

He has also aced the 17th at Sawgrass, in 2022, and the short seventh at Pebble Beach, in January 2025, two of the most famous par threes in golf.
