Séamus Power six adrift after the opening round of the Valero Texas Open

Seamus Power of Ireland watches his putt on the ninth green during the second round of the Cognizant Classic 2026 at PGA National Resort And Spa on February 27, 2026 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Séamus Power failed to fire on his back nine in Texas

Séamus Power is six shots off the lead currently held by American Mark Hubbard after the opening round of the weather-affected Valero Texas Open.

The start of the tournament was delayed by 90 minutes due to the inclement conditions, with 24 players still to complete their rounds.

Power made birdie on his opening hole, the tenth, but then gave it back after a six on the par-five 14th. However, birdies followed on 15 and 17 but that was not the spark for even better things on the back nine. The Waterford native dropped another shot on six, eventually signing for a one-under 71.

LEADERBOARD

Hubbard birdied six off his last eight holes to shoot a 65 and on seven under he is one clear of a group which also includes fellow Americans Tony Finau, Davis Thompson, Andrew Putnam and Steven Fisk.

England's Tommy Fleetwood is among those a further shot back after an opening 67 in a group featuring his Swedish Ryder Cup colleague Ludvig Aberg.
