Mark Power built on a strong opening round at the Magical Kenya Open to leave himself well in contention heading into the weekend's action.

Power, playing in the competition thanks to a sponsor’s invite, impressed in the opening round with a score of 67, and went even better than that in the second round at Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

Making the turn at level par after an eventful start that saw him claim two birdies along with two bogeys, Power made a big surge on the back nine.

Birdies on the 12th, 16th and 17th set the stage before Power finished with a flourish and bagged an eagle on the par-5 final hole to leave him five shots off the lead on eight under.
