Rory McIlroy's fast start at the Genesis Invitational was disrupted when the first round was suspended because of inclement weather in Pacific Palisades, California.
Players were pulled off the course at Riviera Country Club after the horn sounded at 10.13am local time. Steady rain came for the next couple of hours, with the round resuming at 1pm.
McIlroy had birdied the first and the third holes to sit on two-under-par. Shane Lowry was one-over through four.
"It's not a dangerous situation, but it is just too much water on the greens. We're losing greens left and right," PGA Tour rules official Orlando Pope saidduring the PGA Tour Live broadcast.
Akshay Bhatia was at three-under-par through six holes while McIlroy, Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner Collin Morikawa and Ryan Gerard each sat one stroke back.
