Rory McIlroy certainly had an up-and-down round on day one of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, carding a 68 but had the misfortune of double-bogeying a couple of holes heading for home, while Shane Lowry is a shot better off after he signed for a 67.
Lowry, playing on Spyglass Hill course, started at the tenth and posted consecutive birdies. The highlight of the day came on 14 where he hit a 46-foot bunker shot for eagle. He would go one to birdie four holes but in between was those 5s on the par-three 3 and 5.
At the Pebble Beach Links, Lowry posted three birdies before dropping consecutive shots on nine and 10. He finished strongly, picking up four shots to lie on the five-under mark.
Leading the way is Japanese player Ryo Hisatsune after a stunning 62, leaving him on 10 under, with the American duo Keegan Bradley and Sam Burns a shot further back.
