Scotland's Calum Hill retained the lead of the Bahrain Championship despite a slow start on Saturday and a comeback from Freddy Schott.

Hill led by four after a course-record 61 on Friday but was two over for his first six holes on Saturday, allowing Schott to briefly nudge ahead around the turn.

Successive birdies at the 14th and 15th, and a closing bogey for Schott, saw Hill end the day two clear of the German on 16-under par and he said: "If at the start of the week you said I’d have a couple of shots going into Sunday, I’d be delighted.

"I’m in control of what happens tomorrow. If I play half-decent, then I’ll give myself a good chance."

Former Masters champions Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia were the nearest challengers to the pair at 12 under, alongside Hill’s compatriot Grant Forrest.

Padraig Harrington failed to make the cut.
