Jayden Schaper edged out defending champion Shaun Norris in a play-off at the Alfred Dunhill Championship to win his first DP World Tour title.

The 24-year-old, watched by friends and family in Johannesburg, made an eagle three at the first extra hole to deny his fellow South African.

Norris had shot 62 on Sunday to chase down overnight leader Eugenio Chacarra in a tournament reduced to 54 holes by Saturday's torrential rain but could only applaud Schaper’s stunning approach at the play-off hole that set up the winning eagle.

Schaper, who chipped in to birdie the 16th and gained another shot at the 17th to reach the play-off, said: "It’s just so special, it’s been so close the last few weeks and probably the last couple of years. It’s a dream come true and it’s prayers answered."

There were no Irish players involved this week.
