The 38-year-old squeezed inside the cut on Friday and began his third round with a bogey at the first after failing to find the fairway.

An eight-foot putt at the fifth secured his first birdie of the afternoon and while he three-putted the par-3 seventh hole, it proved to be his final dropped shot of the day.

Indeed it started a run of six birdies over the following seven holes as he moved to five-under overall, 13 shots adrift of South African Garrick Higgo.

Higgo shot a five-under 67 to double his lead to two shots heading into the final round.

The South African, who has been battling a hip injury, opened his third round with two birdies en route to maintaining his place at the top of the leaderboard at 18-under-par.

Steven Fisk and Danny Walker are tied for second. Fisk fired his second consecutive 65, while Walker shot a 67.

Taylor Montgomery is a shot further back with fellow Americans Matt Kuchar, Frank Capan III and Vince Whaley four strokes off the pace.
