England's Marcus Armitage led by two strokes after the first round of the FedEx Open de France after a stunning scoring run around the turn.
Armitage, 38 and ranked 241st in the world, birdied eight out of 10 holes between the sixth and 15th on his way to a seven-under-par 64.
"I think I one-putted every green for that space of holes," he said. "Yes, that will work."
Armitage, whose one win to date on the DP World Tour came at the 2021 Porsche European Open, had nine birdies in all along with two bogeys to lead from home favourite Julien Guerrier and Australia’s Min Woo Lee.
Another Englishman, Sam Bairstow, was in a large group sharing fourth place on four under. Dan Bradbury began his title defence with a one-under-par 70.
The only Irishman in action, Conor Purcell, had a day to forget.
He shot an eight-over 79 to sit joint-bottom of the leaderboard.
