Conor Purcell carded a 70 to lie five shots off the lead held by three players after the opening round of the Soudal Open in Belgium.

The Dubliner made made three birdies on the front nine but dropped shots on 10 and 13 to finish one-under par alongside 24 other competitors in 45th spot.

Dutchman Joost Luiten, Angel Ayora from Spain and Candian Aaron Cockerill head the standings on six under after their 65s.


LEADERBOARD


American Sean Crocker, South African Thriston Lawrence and England's Marco Penge sit a shot further back in a share of fourth.
