Seamus Power shot a flawless seven-under 64 to sit on the shoulder of leader Mackenzie Hughes at the Myrtle Beach Classic in South Carolina.
The highlight of Power's day came at the eighth, when he holed out from over 160 yards to score an eagle. Five birdies, and not one bogey, got the Waterford man home just a shot behind the Candian Hughes, who birdied his last four holes to reach eight-under.
Power is tied second with Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen and Will Chandler of the USA.
Hughes was satisfied a tweak to his putting routine paid dividends after his good start.
"Putted nicely today," he said. "Then at the end there I kind of caught fire. I can't remember the last time I birdied the last four holes. But it's definitely a nice finish."
