Conor Purcell sits just outside the top 20 ahead of the final round of the Volvo China Open as home favourite Li Haotong and Spain's Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra share the lead.

This is just the third time in nine events this season that Purcell has been about for the weekend, but he’s in a great position to record his best result after a third-round 67 left him on four-under par.

The Irish golfer made an untidy start, with dropped shots at the first and fourth, but his card wouldn’t feature another bogey.

Four birdies would follow though with the highlight of the round coming on the 17th as Purcell recorded an eagle.

He’s still eight shots off the leaders though, who start the final round on 12 under.

They’ll be looking over their shoulders at Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat, who streaked into second place, and one shot back, with a scintillating 65.

Aphibarnrat didn’t drop a shot all day and picked up six birdies to bring himself right into contention.
