Seamus Power is five shots off the lead after carding a 67 in the opening round at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic.

The Waterford native had an upbeat round, starting with a birdie on 14 before another at 18.

Another after the turn on the first kept Power on the right track before his only bogey on the par-three second.

But the 38-year-old was not put off course for long, with birdies on four, five and seven to finish his day in style at Corales Golf Course.

It leaves him on five under, tied for 19th, while American Joel Dahmen leads the way by two shots after a bogey-free 62.

South African Garrick Higgo, USA's Keith Mitchell and England's Matt Wallace are tied for second.
