Leona Maguire's chances of reaching the knock-out stages of the T-Mobile Match Play came to an end after her second round-robin match with Ko Jin-Young ended in a tie.
The Cavan golfer needed to win her final two group games after opening with a heavy 6&5 loss to Canadian Brooke Henderson at Shadow Creek, Las Vegas, but it wasn’t to be.
Maguire faces Chien Peiyun on Friday but she can only finish on 1.5 points in Group 8, with Henderson already on two points after her 5&4 win over Peiyun on Thursday.
For so long it looked like Maguire would have the opportunity to set up a potential stab at qualification in her third match as she dominated the majority of her round with Jin-Young, finding herself four up thru 10.
Heading down the 17th, Maguire was still two up and looking good for the full point.
A bogey on the 17th, her opponent saving par, meant that the match went down the last and Jin-Young was able to rescue half a point.
