Sara Byrne is in a share of second place at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco after a four-under-par 69 in the second and penultimate round.

That took the Ladies European Tour rookie to six under, alongside Spain's Nuria Iturrioz (70) and Germany's Helen Briem (69).

Singapore's Shannon Tan leads the way by single shot after adding a 69 to her opening-round 70 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat.

Six players are tied for fourth on five-under-par: Germany's Aline Krauter, Austria’s Emma Spitz, England’s Annabell Fuller, Cara Gainer and Gabriella Cowley, and Spain’s Teresa Toscano.

Lauren Walsh is in joint 21st (-2) after a 69 while Anna Foster (78, +2), Olivia Mehaffey (73, +2) and Annabel Wilson (74, +3) all made the cut, Wilson just inside the mark.

"It's been a good day," said Cork woman Byrne afterwards. "It's always great being in contention coming into the final day, especially as a rookie.

"I honestly just played really solid today, putted well, and it’s always a nice day when you have seven birdies on the cards.

"The course is kind of quirky in places, but honestly, the course conditions are really good, there are low scoring chances out there.

"I’ve just been loving the week. I kind of missed the competing over the break a little bit and so to have this as the first event with the senior tour as well, it’s pretty cool. I also got drawn with Olivia [Mehaffey] and Megan [Dennis] for the first two rounds.

"It felt a little bit of home from home with Olivia and I, so I’m just taking it all in and it’s good to be back."

The final round gets under way tomorrow at 10am Irish time.
