Sepp Straka moved into a four-stroke lead heading into the final round of The American Express tournament in California.

An eight-under-par round at the La Quinta Course – one of three being used for the event – took the Austrian Ryder Cup player to 23-under-par after back-to-back 64s.

He heads into the final round at the PGA West Stadium Course with a cushion over joint overnight leader Charley Hoffman, fellow American Justin Lower and Australian Jason Day.

American duo Patrick Cantlay and Mark Hubbard are a shot further back on 18-under-par, one ahead of Justin Thomas.

He added two more coming home but needed a 10-foot putt on the last to complete his third consecutive round without dropping a shot.
