Leona Maguire's excellent 65 propelled her to within one shot of the lead at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan.
The Cavan native had made a solid start to the tournament in Thursday's opening round with a 69 and did not settle for simply continuing in that vein on Friday as she improved further by carding a 65 that leaves her on 10 under in a four-way tie for second.
The highlight of Maguire's second round came at the very end with an eagle on 18, while she holed seven birdies, including four in a row from 12 to 15 and only suffered brief setbacks with two bogeys.
Ayaka Furue leads the way on 11 under after a 67 at the Blythefield Country Club course.
Stephanie Meadow, who had also made a good start on Thursday, is six shots off the lead after following up Thursday's 70 with a three-under 69 that moves her up to five-under overall, just inside the top 30.
