Fresh from winning $18m as part of his day job as the world's number three golfer, Rory McIlroy was quick to return to his side-gig as chief defender of the PGA Tour in face of LIV Golf incursion.
McIlroy, along with Tiger Woods, has been at the vanguard of changes to the tour that seek to stem the tide of top players joining the Saudi Arabia-funded breakaway series.
The negotiations had clearly not dulled the Down man's competitive edge as he capitalised on an off-colour Scottie Scheffler on Sunday at East Lake to overturn a six-shot deficit to win the tour's showpiece finale.
However, soon after his record-breaking third FedEx Cup win, McIlroy was back on the offensive when asked about the presence of LIV Golf players at Wentworth for next month's BMW Championship, the flagship event of the DP World Tour season.
While the PGA Tour have excluded all LIV players from participating, pending legal challenges, eligible players now on the LIV Golf roster have been given the right to compete on the DP World Tour, again pending legal resolution.
Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and others are expected to contest the event from 8-11 September.
"I hate it. I really do. It's going to be hard for me to stomach going to Wentworth in a couple of weeks' time and seeing 18 of them there. That just doesn't sit right with me.
"So yeah, I feel strongly. I believe what I'm saying are the right things and I think when you believe that what you're saying is the right thing, you're happy to stick your neck out on the line."
The 33-year-old Irishman gave further insight into his leading role in defending the PGA Tour, during what he describes as a "tumultuous time" for men's golf.
"I've been right in the middle of it. I've picked a great time to go on the PGA Tour board.
"But yeah, I've been in the thick of things. I guess every chance I get, I'm trying to defend what I feel is the best place to play elite professional golf in the world.
"It's in some ways fitting that I was able to get this done today to sort of round off a year that has been very, very challenging and different."
