Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell sit tied-third after carding five-under par rounds of 66 on Thursday at the RBC Heritage in South Carolina.
On a day of strong scoring at the Harbour Town Links, the Irish pair are a cluster of players, including Corey Conners and Patrick Cantlay, on five under, three strokes behind outright leader Cameron Young, who began a stellar 63. Late on, Chile's Jaoquin Niemann leapfrogged the pack on five-under with a round of 65.
Continuing his strong form from Augusta, Lowry, beginning his round of the 10th, finished his front nine with three consecutive birdies from 16-18. Around the turn, he registered birdies on the 2nd and the 5th to reach five-under par in a blemish free round.
Likewise commencing on the 10th, McDowell also carded a bogey free round, with birdies arriving on 10, 16 and 17, with back-to-back birdies coming on the inward nine on the 5th and 6th.
Twenty four-year-old American Young, yet to win on the PGA Tour, leads the way following a stunning 63, which boasted eight birdies and no bogeys.
He leads by two strokes from Chilean Joaquin Niemann.
