Ireland's Seamus Power is almost certain to make his Masters debut in a fortnight's time after thrashing world number four Patrick Cantlay 5 and 4 at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Power, who beat Sungjae Im by the same score on Wednesday, began the week ranked 48th in the world and needs to remain in the top 50 on Sunday evening to secure an invite to Augusta National.

Those two victories look sure to keep him in the top 50 and the form he's showing will offer him great encouragement.

Power won the first hole against Cantlay and it was a lead he never relinquished, with the American only managing to win one hole throughout the contest.

"I didn't make too many mistakes and obviously I caught Patrick on a day when he didn't play his best, so I was able to take advantage," said Power, who made just one birdie in 14 holes and will need just a half point against Keith Mitchell on Friday to win group four.

Shane Lowry responded to Wednesday's 2&1 loss to Harold Varner III with a nervy two-up win over Erik van Rooyen.

It was looking comfortable for the Offaly golfer as some fine play between the 10th and 14th saw him four head with as many holes to play.

The South African then won three holes in succession to open the door to a possible half point on the 18th, but a 12 foot putt swung right of the hole to give Lowry the win. Victory over Brooks Koepka must follow if he is to reach the latter stages of the competition.

Paul Casey is out of the tournament after conceding his second match of the week, this time without hitting a single shot.

Casey completed two holes of his opening contest with Corey Conners and hit his tee shot on the third before withdrawing due to back spasms on Wednesday.

The 44-year-old had hoped to be fit to face former Ryder Cup team-mate Alex Noren on Thursday but withdrew at the last minute, with a somewhat bemused Noren already on the first tee.
