Seamus Power will carry the Irish hopes into the weekend at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba after Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell missed the cut in Mexico.

The Waterford man enjoyed another productive day as his four-under-par 67 brought him to seven under par for the tournament, six shots off halfway leader American Matthew Wolff.

Power, who is a tie for 22nd, dropped just one shot all day – at the par-four third – with birdies arriving at the second, fifth, seventh, 13th and 17th.

An outward nine of 36 left Lowry well shy of the cut-mark after 36 holes. The 2019 Open Champion, who began his round on the 10th, carded three birdies on his inward nine on the 3rd, 7th and 9th but this left him at -2 for the championship, two shots off the cut-line.

McDowell was a shot further back with a double bogey at the third leaving him with an uphill task in his attempts to be around for the final two rounds.

Wolff stole a march on the field on Thursday with a stunning 61 and a second-round 68 keeps him two shots clear of fellow American Scottie Scheffler.
