Shane Lowry says his first impressions of life in Europe's Ryder Cup team is "everything I expected and more".
The Offaly native will make his tournament debut this week at Whistling Straits after being named as a wildcard pick by Europe captain and fellow Irish major winner Padraig Harrington.
"It's just so special to be here. It really is," Lowry said.
"Anybody that's been involved with me over the last 10 years knows how much I really wanted to be here, and I'm here now."
He added: "You can't feel any more pressure than there will be out there Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"Obviously I'm a captain's pick but I was very close to making the team, I was first man out and I felt I deserved a pick.
"I feel like I deserve to be here, if I didn't it might feel different."
The 34-year-old is determined to make up for lost time after coming close to qualifying five years ago.
"You want to win majors and compete at the highest level and golf, for the most part, is an individual sport.
"But as an Irish player growing up you've watched the Ryder Cup and all the great Irish players and it is something I really wanted to do and had to do if I wanted to be up there with those guys when you are talking about great golfers.
"I felt I let it slip in 2016, I didn't play great towards the end of that campaign.
"Obviously I needed a pick at the end of the day but I'm grateful (Harrington) has put his trust in me."
The 2019 Open champion said that the expected windy and cool conditions will make him feel right at home on the Wisconsin course.
"I'm pretty happy with the golf course and that cold wind. It feels very much like a summer's day in Ireland when you're out there," he said.
"I believe I'll have a big part to play in this team this week, and I do believe that I can bring a lot when it comes to it on Friday, Saturday, Sunday when push comes to shove.
"I'll just go out there and be myself and hopefully pick up some points, hopefully win that trophy on Sunday."
