Scotland's Michele Thomson shot a seven-under-par 65 to take a two-shot lead after the first round of the Trust Golf Women's Scottish Open.
Meanwhile, Ireland's Leona Maguire sits six shots off the lead and in a tie for 35th after a one-under par round of 71, marked by three birdies and two bogeys.
It was an impressive return to form by the Aberdonian, who last month withdrew from the Gant Ladies Open in Finland after her father Graham suffered a heart attack whilst caddying for her.
Having recovered, Graham was watching as his daughter hit back from a bogey on the opening hole with an eagle at the second and seven birdies at Dumbarnie Links on Thursday.
Thomson said: "I've had quite a tough time with dad in Finland obviously and haven't been concentrating on my golf, but that shows me that golf's just golf and just get on with it, and whatever happens, that's life."
The trio of Anne Van Dam, Jasmine Suwannapura and Yuka Saso were in a tie for third on five under.
Another Scot, Kelsey MacDonald, and Wales' Becky Morgan were among 10 players tied for fifth on four under.
