Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy failed to find any real meaningful rhythm at the the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational in Memphis where Harris English leads the way.
A 69 to add to yesterday's 68 sees Lowry on three-under-par, 10 shots adrift of leader English, while McIlroy is a shot further back on two-under after a second round 66.
English however is the man to catch. The American was two strokes ahead of the field at the start of the day and impressed from his start on the back nine with a 35-foot birdie putt on the par-three 11th hole followed by birdies at 14 and 16.
English bogeyed the par-four second but followed this with an eagle on the next hole before finishing the day atop the leaderboard after a five-under 65.
Two strokes back on 11-under after shooting 62s were Abraham Ancer of Mexico and Australia's Cameron Smith, with the latter tying the PGA Tour record for fewest putts - 18 - in a round.
England's Ian Poulter mixed four birdies with a single bogey for a 66 that left him at 10-under along with Americans Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler.
