Leona Maguire is four off the lead after making a strong start to the Amundi Evian Championship on Thursday.

The Cavan woman carded a two-under 69 to sit among a condensed bunch, with Thailand's Pajaree Anannarukarn and American Yealimi Noh sharing the lead on six-under.

Both shot opening rounds of 65 at Evian Resort Golf Club in France. Northern Ireland's Stephanie Meadow is lever par having started with a 71.

Noh began brilliantly with a hole-out eagle at the first and followed that with five birdies and one bogey to share the lead with her rival, who was bogey-free with six birdies.

"It was the first time I've started a tournament with an eagle. Both of my playing partners stuck it and I was like 'I hope I stick it too, I don't want to be left out' and it went in, so it was nice," she said.

"I wanted to finish good and take the advantage of that early start."

Denmark's Emily Kristine Pedersen recorded eagles at the ninth and 18th as her 66 put her in the group one shot off the lead.

England's Georgia Hall is two under after back-to-back birdies at the 16th and 17th salvaged a mixed round.
