Leona Maguire carded a second round 68, including five birdies, to climb up the leaderboard at the halfway stage at the Marathon Classic.

The Co Cavan native is just outside the top 20 on five under, seven shots off the lead held by Japan's Nasa Hataoka, who holds a two-stroke advantage over USA's Mina Harigae.

Northern Ireland's Stephanie Meadow missed the cut after a second consecutive round of 74 left her on six over for the tournament.

Maguire came into Friday's second round in Ohio off the back of an opening 69.

Teeing off from the back nine, Maguire opened with a double bogey on the 10th.

But a run of five birdies on her last nine holes of the day saw her overcome that difficult start and complete a turnaround.

A birdie on hole one, followed by three-in-a-row on the fourth, fifth and sixth, helped her gain momentum before another on the par-3 eighth saw her finish with a three-under 68.

Meanwhile, Meadow managed two birdies but five bogeys saw the Co Antrim golfer slip down the leaderboard, outside the top 120 and six shots adrift of the projected cut mark.
