Stephanie Meadow is five shots off the lead ahead of the third round at the Pure Silk Championship in Virginia but Leona Maguire missed the cut.
Co Antrim golfer Meadow had opened with a one-over 72 on Thursday but enjoyed an upsurge in fortunes on day two as she carded an improved 69, which featured three birdies on two, six and 16 and just one bogey on nine.
Sarah Kemp of Australia leads the way on six under after a 67, which leaves her one shot clear of the chasing pack made up of Slovenia's Ana Belac and the US pair Jessica Korda and Stacy Lewis.
Maguire had also started one-over but the Cavan golfer was unable to gain momentum in round two as she slipped down the leaderboard with a 75 leaving her on five over - three shots outside the projected cut mark.
An early birdie on 11 saw Maguire pick up a shot but a bogey on 13 followed by a double bogey on the 17th dropped her back to three-over.
She managed a birdie on hole five but three bogeys on four, seven and nine proved costly.
