Leona Maguire was unable to replicate her stellar opening round of 67 as she carded a one-over 73 to drop to a tie for 12th place on the leaderboard of the ANA Inspiration LPGA tournament.

The Cavan native was in a share of second place after the opening round of the major in California, but now sits five shots off leader Patty Tavatanakit from Thailand.

Starting on the back nine, Maguire enjoyed a steady opening nine to turn on six under par, having picked up a shot on the 12th hole, however, three bogeys inside the opening six holes on her back nine, with just a solitary birdie, saw Maguire drop back to four under par going into the weekend.

Stephanie Meadow also dropped down the leaderboard as her one over 73 brought her back to level par and a tie for 44th place.

The Irish Olympian posted three bogeys and two birdies and finished one shot inside the cut mark to make it through to the weekend.

Meanwhile, England's Charley Hull and Georgia Hall remain within four shots of leader Tavatanakit after the second round.

An eagle on the par four 15th helped Thailand's Tavatanakit follow up an opening round 66 with a three-under 69 to maintain a one-shot lead at Rancho Mirage.

Hot on her heels is China's Shanshan Feng, who picked up six birdies on Friday to head into the weekend at eight under.

Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn is one shot behind Feng, while Hull carded back-to-back 69s to sit in fourth place alongside Sweden's Anna Nordqvist.

Hull's compatriot Hall picked up two shots from her first nine holes before matching two birdies with two bogeys down the stretch to close out the second round on five under with a share of sixth place.

Englishwomen Bronte Law and Mel Reid also struggled on Friday, falling out of the hunt with scores of 74 and 73 respectively.
