Leona Maguire finished in a tie for sixth place at the Drive On Championship in Florida as Austin Ernst completed a dominant victory.

Cavan golfer Maguire had been in top 10 contention throughout the tournament, but finished with aplomb after carding a final-round 70 on Sunday to move up to five under.

It marks a strong start to 2021 on the LPGA Tour for the 26-year-old after she finished in a tie for 16th at the Gainbridge Championship last week.

Fellow Irish contender Stephanie Meadow rounded off her tournament with a 72 to end up on one over.

Maguire came into Sunday's final round in a tie for 11th after slipping out of the top 10 during the third round.

But while she had four bogeys, she managed six birdies, including three-in-a-row on holes five, six and seven.

Meadow, meanwhile, carded two birdies and two bogeys.

But it was USA's Ernst who triumphed by five shots on 15 under after a 70 for her third LPGA Tour title.

She had shared the overnight lead on both Thursday and Friday with compatriot Jennifer Kupcho before taking a one-stroke lead after Saturday's third round.

And Ernst extended that advantage, with Kupcho's 74 dropping her back, although the latter still managed to finish second overall on 10 under, two shots clear of fellow US challenger Jenny Coleman.
