Seamus Power is 10 shots off the lead after the opening round at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The Waterford native carded a level-over par 72 on the Spyglass Hill course to sit just outside the top 70 at the tournament in California.

Patrick Cantlay holds a two-shot lead on 10 under after tying the course record, ahead of the pair of Akshay Bhatia and Henrik Norlander, with all of the top five tackling the Pebble Beach links course.

Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth, who enjoyed an upturn in form at last week's Phoenix Open before finishing in a tie for fourth, continued his encouraging resurgence with a 65, putting him within three shots of Cantlay and in a tie for fourth with Nate Lashley.

Power birdied the fourth and seventh holes but was hampered by bogeys on the sixth, eighth and ninth.

But he returned to level par with a birdie on the 15th, sitting in a tie with Rickie Fowler, KJ Choi and Jhonattan Vegas among others.

Cantlay had shared the lead with US compatriot Bhatia and Sweden's Norlander before birdies on the 17th and 18th saw him finish with an impressive 62 and build a two-shot advantage on the chasing pack ahead of day two.

Power will tee of Friday's second round at 4.41pm Irish time from the 10th tee.
