Olivia Mehaffey will make her second US Women's Open appearance as an amateur this week at Champions Golf Club, Houston, Texas.
The 23-year-old from Royal County Down Ladies gains an exemption into the field by virtue of being in the top 20 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Mehaffey previously competed at the event in 2018 at Shoal Creek, however this is the third Major Championship of 2020 in which she tees up having played in the Women’s Open at Royal Troon and the ANA Inspiration at Mission Hills, California.
She'll begin her opening round at 9.31am (3.31pm Irish time) on Thursday morning alongside Lindsey Weaver and Annie Park.
Mehaffey took advantage of the NCAA granting an additional year of eligibility for spring-sport athletes due to Covid-19 cutting short the 2019-20 season and has been fine-tuning her game at the Arizona State facilities while undertaking a Master’s degree.
Following the US Women’s Open, Mehaffey will travel to Bay Hill for the rescheduled Arnold Palmer Cup from 21 to 23 December.
Jeongeun Lee6 (South Korea) is defending US Women’s Open Champion and joins eight past winners in the 156-strong field.
