A birdie at the first play-off hole saw Denmark's Emily Kristine Pedersen win the inaugural Saudi Ladies International for her second victory of the season on the Ladies European Tour.

The 24-year-old trailed England's Georgia Hall by three shots with five holes of her final round to play but levelled things up at 10 under on the par-five 18th green with a birdie after narrowly missing the 12-foot eagle putt which would have secured victory.

They went back up the 18th for their first extra hole and Hall's four-iron approach found the water from the middle of the fairway, which opened the door for Pedersen to get up and down for another birdie from the short side of the green.

The win - and the season's largest winner's cheque for a regular tour event of £132,000 - put the Dane into an almost unassailable position leading the Race to Costa del Sol.

"It's very special, I am very happy that I got to be the first person to win a tournament here," said Pedersen, who shot a 72 in her fourth round.

"I changed my strategy on the 18th. I knew I had to make a birdie on the last (in regulation play). It was one of the best shots I've ever hit."

Hall, who missed a 10-footer for birdie at the last and had to settle for a round of 69, said: "It was just a shame my putt on 18 didn't go in.

"Emily hit an amazing shot on the last hole in regulation and it was very brave. She hit a fantastic chip (in the play-off) and that's where I lost it."
