American golfer Denny McCarthy has withdrawn from the Travelers Championship after testing positive for coronavirus.
Ranked 59 on the FedEx standings, McCarthy became the third PGA player to contract Covid-19, while six players pulled out of the event in Connecticut for coronavirus reasons, including Ireland's Graeme McDowell, whose caddie tested positive.
Nick Watney was the first Tour player to test positive last week and Cameron Champ did so at a pre-tournament screening this week.
World number four Brooks Koepka and McDowell also withdrew from the tournament as a precaution after their caddies tested positive. The two golfers tested negative.
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are due to start their second rounds around 6pm (Irish).
McCarthy, who carded an opening round of 67, told the Golf Channel: "I feel OK. I woke up in the middle of the night and my body was really achy and sore and figured something was wrong.
"I'll deal with it and move on. Sucks. Feel like I figured some things out this week and was ready for a nice stretch."
On Thursday, world number one McIlroy said calls to cancel the Travelers Championship due to the coronavirus were silly as only a "quarter of a percent" of nearly 3,000 tests had been positive.
Elsewhere, 16 NBA players tested positive for Covid-19, the league have confirmed, a little over a month before the 2020 season is set to resume.
