Rory McIlroy says he will play next year's Dubai Duty Free Irish Open if a date in May in confirmed.

The County Down man didn't play this year at Lahinch as he dedicated himself to a busy schedule on the PGA Tour.

After claiming the PGA Tour Player of the Year gong for a third time this week, he said his 2020 plans are similar to those of this summer, but that an earlier date would see him compete at the yet to be confirmed venue.

"I don't think I'll miss The Irish Open for two years in a row," he said.

"I saw that the dates changed to the end of May it looks like, and if that's the case, I will definitely make the trip. I will definitely make the trip back over for that event."
