Seamus Power facing battle for PGA Tour card

Séamus Power will likely need to equal his career-best PGA Tour finish this weekend in order to avoid entering a play-off to keep his PGA Tour card.

The Waterford golfer is in action at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina, the last regular event of the season, and needs to deliver a huge performance following a disappointing season.

Power missed 11 of the first 15 cuts, but his form improved after changing coach mid-season.

If Power does not secure his card in North Carolina, he will have one final chance to regain it at the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, previously known as the Web.com Tour Play-offs.

The 32-year-old is no stranger to the play-offs.

Having won his card for the 2016/17 season via the Web.com Tour, he finished 130th in the FedExCup standings before successfully negotiating the play-offs. Last season, he narrowly avoided a return to the competition after finishing 125th in the FedExCup standings.

The three-event play-off series sees the top 75 from the second tier US Tour taking on those who finish between 125th and 200th on the PGA Tour's FedExCup points list.

Also teeing it up at the Wyndham is Pádraig Harrington, who played on a Career Money List exemption this season. The three-time Major winner is 213th in the standings but may claim a medical exemption for a portion of the season due to a wrist injury.
