Paul Dunne holds a share of the lead on six under after the first round of the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in the Dominican Republic.

With most of the top golfers taking part in the World Golf Championships match play in Texas this is a chance for some lower-ranked players to shine

Dunne is tied after a 66 on Thursday alongside Australian Matt Jones and American Joe Dahmen. They lead Sungjae Im of South Korea by a single shot.

The leaderboard is extremely crowded though, with more than 20 players within three shots of the top.

Dunne started on the back nine and sparkled early on, picking up five shots on the way out. After the turn though it was more of a mixed back with two bogeys alongside three more birdies.

Seamus Power is tied in 65th place after he level par 72 opening round.

"Things are starting to get better, I'm starting to get back in the swing of tournaments," said Dunne, who finished joint fifth in this tournament last year.

"It's nice to fill the gap here with a great event and hopefully I can make the most of it. I feel comfortable here.

"The couple of loose tee shots I normally hit in a round I can get away with here, so it plays to my strength a little bit. The breeze blowing for the week is nice, we're used to that."
