Matt Kuchar is the outright leader after the second round of the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Seamus Power and Graeme McDowell both failed to make the cut. McDowell finished on -2 after back-to-back rounds of 70 while Power was four over after a 72 and a Friday 74.

American Kuchar, who went into the day tied for the lead along with compatriots Kramer Hickok and Dominic Bozzelli, hit a seven under 64 and heads into the weekend on 14 under with a two-shot advantage over big-hitting rookie Cameron Champ.

Kuchar begun with five straight birdies on the front nine. He was leading by one shot when his tee shot sailed right and landed in bushes near rocks. He took a penalty drop in a precarious spot and managed to escape with a bogey following a chip and sensational 35-foot putt.

Champ, going for his second victory this season, had a bogey on the 18th hole to finish with a round of 62.

Anirban Lahiri carded seven birdies on his way to a five under 66, putting him at 11-under for the tournament and tied for third along with six other players heading into the weekend.

Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth missed the cut in his final event of the year. The American was playing in Mexico via an arrangement made with the PGA Tour after he failed to qualify for the Tour Championship and therefore did not play the requisite 25 events.
