Czech Masters leader Harrington ready to 'duel' with Pavan

Padraig Harrington is in a share of the lead following the third round of the Czech Masters after producing a flawless round of seven under par.

The Dubliner shares the top spot with Andrea Pavan of Italy on 17 under, with Malaysia's Gavin Green their closest chaser on 14 under par.

Harrington's 65 in Prague meant he had recorded his lowest 54-hole score since winning the Portugal Masters in 2016.

The three-time major winner picked up four birdies on the first nine and three on the back nine. A birdie putt on the last for the outright lead just evaded the 46-year-old.

"I kind of feel like it was a day too early," Harrington told Sky Sports after his round.

"It took a lot out of me and a lot of focus and I holed the putts like I'd want to hole them on a Sunday. I'm hoping there's still another round in it.

"You've got to go out there expecting a roller-coaster [tomorrow].

"You'd love it not to be but that's what you've got to prepare yourself for - that you're going to make some mistakes, mentally, you are going to get good and bad breaks, you're going to hole some putts, miss some putts.

"It's too much to dream of it being a nice perfect day.

"Hopefully, myself and Pavan, we move ahead, get out there and both have good front nine and have it as a duel between the two of us over the last nine.

"That would be the nice scenario but it very rarely is the nice scenario on a Sunday."

England's Eddie Pepperell could move into an automatic qualifying place for the Ryder Cup with a win, while Belgian Thomas Pieters is looking to impress European captain Thomas Bjorn and earn a wild card, but they will both head into round four six shots off the lead.

Harrington got up and down to birdie the par five first and then some dialled-in iron play brought further gains on the sixth and seventh.

The par-five ninth, 10th and 12th saw the three-time major winner pick up three more shots to share the lead with Pavan and when he made an eight-foot putt on the 14th, he led on his own.

Pavan then holed a brilliant double-breaker down the slope on the 15th to make it a tie at the top once more.
