Seamus Power just about held on to his US Tour card after Sergio Garcia had a fourth round meltdown at the Wyndham Championship.
Power needed to finish in the top 125 of the FedEx Cup points standings to keep his card for 2019.
Things didn’t look good when his three over total after two rounds saw him miss the cut at the final PGA Tour event of the regular season.
Early on Sunday it looked as though he was going to lose out, but then Garcia started to go backwards.
He had three bogeys on his back nine to record a level par final round and finish tied 24th on -12 for the tournament. This saw the Spaniard tumble from above Power to 128 in the points race and that was enough for the Waterford golfer to hand on to his card.
Brandt Snedeker completed a start-to-finish victory at the Wyndham Championship.
The 37-year-old earned his ninth PGA Tour victory after finishing three shots clear of Webb Simpson and CT Pan after completing 29 holes on Sunday.
Snedeker, who started the event on Thursday with a 59, finished his rain-affected third round on Sunday morning before firing a 66 to end on 21 under par in North Carolina.
He came under pressure from Simpson, who recorded an eight-under 62 containing seven birdies and an eagle, while Pan was level on 20 under heading into the 18th, but drove out of bounds and could only manage a double bogey.
Snedeker, who won the event in 2007, picked up shots on the third, fifth, eighth and 11th before his sole blemish on the 13th.
He regained the shot on the 15th and completed his victory in style by rolling in a long birdie putt on the last.
Congratulations to @Power4Seamus (and caddy @Rathouz) as they move on to the #FedExCup playoffs having retained @PGATOUR card for next season. It was squeaky bum time for most of the weekend but the pride of @gc_waterford made it - just!
