Shane Lowry produced a terrific performance in Ohio to book his place at the US Open, but Padraig Harrington and Paul Dunne both missed out after their sectional qualifier in England.
Over at at Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Seamus Power endured the agony of entering an 11-way playoff for three spots when he bogeyed his last hole.
Aaron Wise, Matt Jones and Eric Axley duly took those three places on the first extra hole and Power had to return to the course at 7am to battle for an alternate spot - a battle he won.
The Waterford man will now need other players to withdraw for him to make it to Shinnecock Hills, New York.
Offaly man Lowry finished joint top of the 14 qualifiers on nine-under-par at Brookside Country Club in the States alongside Korea’s Sungjae Im.
He failed to register a single bogey in rounds of 68 - at Lakes GC - and then 67 later in the day at Brookside. Adam Scott also qualified for his 68th straight Major.
Lowry joins former champions Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell as the Irishmen in the field with Seamus Power also in contention as the light closed in at the final qualifier in Tennessee.
Harrington and Dunne failed to make it through qualifying however.
Teeing up at Walton Heath, Surrey, Harrington finished on four-under-par, with Paul Waring the only player to qualify on five-under.
Dunne posted one-under over the two rounds.
English pair Andrew Johnston and James Morrison tied at the top to seal their spots.
The pair both finished on 10-under in this international qualifier and will take their place in the field in New York later this month.
Johnston carded rounds of 65 and 69, while Morrison repeated his opening round 67 on Monday to secure himself a spot.
Some big names fell short in Surrey and both Lee Westwood and Harrington were left wanting as they finished outside the top 14 qualifying spots.
Dane Thorbjorn Olesen backed up victory at the Italian Open to claim a spot at Shinnecock Hills, with a host of other Brits also making the grade.
Richie Ramsay was just a shot off the front, tying for third with Matthew Southgate. Scott Gregory, Tom Lewis and Matthew Wallace were also successful in qualifying.
Other Irish players Gavin Moynihan and Paul McBride also missed out.
