Rickie Fowler sat one shot off the lead when play was suspended due to darkness during the second round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
Earlier in the day, play was held up by a storm with only Patton Kizzire, who held the first-round lead, from the top three completing 18 holes. He fired a one-under 70 to take him to 10 under for the week.
Four straight birdies on the front nine put Patrick Rodgers at the top of the leaderboard on 11 under after 15 holes on day two, with Fowler also left with three to play.
Seamus Power, however, struggled badly on Friday and was four over par for the opening nine holes when conditions stopped play. He is three over par for the tournament.
Scotland's Russell Knox fired a second consecutive round of 68 to sit at six under.
The second round is expected to resume on Saturday morning, pending weather conditions.
