Paul Dunne is three shots off the lead after hitting a five under par 67 in the opening round of the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai.

The Greystones golfer, who claimed his first European tour win at the British Masters in Close House at the beginning of October, hit three birdies on the opening nine and added three more on the 11th, 13th and 14th to reach six under par.

His round was blemish-free until the 17th hole when he dropped a stroke on the 212-yard par 3. He had to settle for a par five on the 18th.

The round leaves Dunne tied for sixth in the competition alongside a host of players on five under including Justin Rose and Matt Kuchar.

2017 US Open champion Brooks Koepka leads the way on eight under par; his round included a stunning run of four birdies and an eagle in six holes.
