Leona Maguire, Olivia Mehaffey and Annabel Wilson have guided Ireland to a bronze medal at the World Amateur Team Championships in Mexico.

Ireland finished third with a combined score of seven under par in the Espirito Santo Trophy at the four-day event at the Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen.

The team event, played over four rounds, took the best two scores from each day's play, with Ireland finishing with a flourish on the final day as Mehaffey’s four under 68, combined with Maguire’s 69 catapulted the team into third place on seven under par.

Runaway winners South Korea finished on a remarkable -29, with silver medallists, Switzerland, just one shot clear of the Irish trio on eight under par.

Maguire missed out on an individual medal as she finished on six under in a tie for sixth place, eight shots off gold medal winner Hye jin Choi of South Korea. Mehaffey’s level par total resulted in a tie for 15th overall, while Wilson posted 17 over par to finish in a tie for 70th place.
